Over the years, artist Ben Perrone has been on the forefront of socially charged art. One of hist latest works, titled War: Ongoing Project, hit home with mesmerizing visual impact. The massive installation tallied the cost of war for all to see, loud and clear.
Now Perrone is setting out to tackle environmental issues, and the impact that Global Warming is having on communities around the world. “Future generations all over the world will be devastated by the changes, which I consider to be the nation and the world’s most important problem,” says Perrone. “As an artist I am and have been supportive in my art and writing on many social problems (War Ongoing Project and Illusion/Delusion). Hugh Levick and I have now designed a huge project on the environment, the “Environment/Maze”. With this project I hope to engage the public with the human effects of global warming.”
Perrone recently launched a crowdfunding initiative at Hatchfund, that will help fund the artist and his designer so that they may move forward with creating an intense interactive installation that will allow visitors to experience what it might be like to be confronted with a natural catastrophe. The installation is an actual maze, that incorporates video, sound, lighting and other special effects, that essentially immerses the participant into a nightmarish experience that might appear to be exciting at first, but quickly descends into a state of disorientation, confusion, and panic. The idea is to take the typical TV broadcast, where the viewer watches from the safety of home (a total disconnect), to a dramatic, virtually realistic state, in order to show just how impactful these types of events actually are (on the planet and living creatures).
You can learn more about Environment/Maze by clicking on this website. Consider donating to the cause, and watch your donation take some twists and turns as this mission becomes reality. Be sure to watch the impactful video, and know that “… your contribution on Hatchfund will be compensated with either a tax deduction and/or Ben’s offer to send you an original signed work of art from his collection including the art of Adele Cohen.”
