Quadcopter pilot Tim Teach got up bright and early on Thursday to capture a few overhead video shots of Delaware Park. The shoot starts out with the Great Lawn blanketed by fog, before folding into a serene clip of Delaware Lake and the Casino/Boathouse.
The bird’s-eye view also captures another perspective of the parkscape – one that shows the disconnect between the aforementioned lake and Mirror Lake/The History Museum. In the video, it’s easy to imagine what it must have been like back in the day, when this section of Delaware Park was contiguous.
Hopefully someday the Department of Transportation (DOT) will do whatever it takes to mend the park back together when the freeway is replaced with a boulevard. Fast traveling cars is not the answer. Rather, bike lanes, a roundabout (at Parkside) and crosswalks are the keys to repairing this forsaken Olmsted treasure.
