It didn’t take long for a new business to sign up for the former Five Points Bakery storefront, after the bakery moved out to expand in a new location across the street (see here). PRESS Food will now be joining Urban Roots Garden Center under one roof, as the two businesses look forward to a fruitful communal relationship that will serve to benefit both operations. According to both parties, PRESS will offer a “full range of 100% organic cold pressed juices, smoothies and raw vegan snacks currently available at the Grant Street location, the new space will also sell organic produce and groceries.”
The new opportunity for PRESS means that owner Esther Pica will be able to expand on some of her current offerings. PRESS, widely known for its cold press juices, will be introducing raw entrees and salads into the mix, as well as cooked vegan foods. Cooking classes will also be included in the list of offerings held at the green-lovers’ space.
Urban Roots General Manager Patti Jablonski-Dopkin expressed “Urban Roots is so excited to have owner Esther Pica set up shop in our building. We have already started discussing collaboration of events and services together to benefit the neighborhood and community at large. PRESS is a perfect complement to our business and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.
Not only will PRESS be hosting classes in raw food and vegan cooking, many of the cafés edibles will be sourced directly from the Urban Roots garden. Urban Roots will also be planting some test gardens in order to make the symbiotic relationship even more fruitful.
“I consider myself very lucky to share not only space but a vision with Urban Roots – another plant-based business,” said Pica. “I hope that Press evolves into a vital neighborhood hub that is both of the community and for the community. Once the space is open, all production will move to Rhode Island – more space – but we are determined to remain a presence on Grant!”
PRESS Food & Juice will be opening its doors @ 426 Rhode Island Street sometime in May, 2015. Press also maintains a pressed juice bar and micro vegan sundries market at 197 Grant Street (see Facebook).
