Imagine Community Gardens is scheduling its third community garden installation at the Hope House, 585 Genesee Street on Saturday April 18th between the hours of 9 AM and 2 PM.
On that date, ICG will be installing their signature raised “H” garden pods, garden shed and picnic tables in preparation for the 2015 growing season. Volunteers from all over the area will gather to build, fill planters and prepare this site for its opening. The public is welcome to pitch in. The Hope House is a transition facility for homeless women and their families.
“We at the Matt Urban Hope House are so grateful to Imagine Community Gardens for choosing The Hope House to create this opportunity for our women and children,” says Joyelle Tedeschi, director, Matt Urban Hope Center
Imagine Community Gardens is a charitable nonprofit, federally recognized 501c3 organization started in 2012. It currently operates two other garden sites in the city of Lockport, with one of these sites recently awarded a New York State Nursery & Landscape Environmental Beautification Award in 2014.
ICG transforms existing city lots into beautiful community gardens and allows nearby residents to garden, free. All sites are supervised by a garden manager under the direction of a County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener and manned with volunteers from partnered organizations. All gardeners choose from three garden planting designs which include all the vegetables, herbs and flowers needed for a productive and nutritious garden. The gardeners also participate in our neighborhood produce donations throughout the gardening season.
Later this season, ICG will be partnering with local landscapers and garden centers to install the Peace Garden, an onsite park for the residents to enjoy themselves with beautiful shrubs, trees and butterfly gardens, with walking paths and seating areas. ICG also will be working with local college students as they add beautiful artwork and a play exercise area to this site.
