A mural project is underway, dedicated to the life of Jerald (Dee Dee) Goldsmith, the mother of seven who was murdered in Masten Park last October.
Buffalo Arts Studio (BAS) and the Goldsmith family are in the process of calling for support for the public art undertaking, which will eventually be located at Masten Park. It is hoped that the addition of a vibrant mural will help to transition the section of the park, from a place of despair to a “Ray of Light” in the eyes of the community. The message will one day ring out loud and clear, as a constant reminder of the innocent lives that are lost to violence.
BAS and the Buffalo Public Schools Art Education Department have already conducted a search for the muralist who will create the work of art. That artist is none other than Augustina Droze, who also painted the magnificent Olmsted mural along Scajaquada Creek. It is anticipated that the mural will go hand-in-hand with an even larger beautification effort at Mason Park, which would include better lighting and landscaping.
There will be a community meeting held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 6:00 PM, to preview the mural and discuss the grassroots initiative.
