Public Espresso + Coffee’s first brick and mortar location opened today inside The Hotel @ The Lafayette.
In order to tell Buffalo that they are serious about this operation located in the lobby of the hotel, the local, small-batch coffee roastery is now open 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week. That means that guests to the hotel, and office workers in the district, will be able to get some of the city’s freshest, locally roasted and expertly prepared cups of coffee and espresso using a variety of single-origin beans and custom blends.
To top it off, Public will also be utilizing a “modbar”, which owners state is “…a completely modular espresso system of which there are only 100 installed in North America, currently.” The brewed-to-order selections make this newly revamped coffee operation a destination unto itself in Downtown Buffalo.
Along with traditional espresso and coffee, Public also offers “coffee flights” that transforms a single coffee bean into a variety of delicious results (i.e. pour-over, espresso, cortado).
Then there are other menu items to round out the offerings, including “hot chocolate made from homemade dark chocolate ganache and steamed milk, tea from MEM Tea Imports, Organic Ginger Ale.” Finally, to tempt the tummy, Espresso will be serving up Breadhive (Buffalo’s only worker-cooperative bakery) bagels, biscotti, cupcakes, etc.
Grab a bag of fresh-roasted coffee beans by the bag, or stop in for a hand crafted our over.
Finally the lobby of the hotel has an operation befitting its multi-million dollar makeover. Let’s hope that Public also has control over some inspirational tunes to go along with the handsome, old world atmosphere. Add some flowers on the bistro tables (from Woyshner’s), a few tea candles in the evening, some magazines and newspapers (for sale or freebies), and some other typical hotel lobby finds, and the homespun operation could become a real draw right out of the gate.
