We all know what this time of year brings, besides warmer weather. As the snow melts, all sorts of litter emerges from the snow banks, leaving an unsightly mess behind. Sometimes, in commercial districts, the businesses opt to take care of the blight. Other times the community gets together to tackle the issue.
In the case of Allentown, there is a group that meets up every third Thursday of the month to clean up the filth that is cast off by litterbugs. The Allentown Litter Mob meets at Fat Bob’s (41 Virginia Place – not Virginia Street) at 6pm, armed with rubber gloves, trash bags, brooms, etc. Don’t worry of you don’t have anything to contribute other than your desire to see a cleaner street. There will be supplies on hand to get the job done.
So what’s the drill? After being assigned to a specific area to clean for one hour, the entire troop heads back to Fat Bob’s for a reward. For a mere five bucks, volunteers get a free drink and food at the buffet.
The clean up effort is also a great way to meet some other do-gooders from around the city.
After a long winter, the streets and the sidewalks are looking pretty bad. Now is the time to get a head start on the cleanup, so that we don’t have to wait another month to band together for this worthy cause.
