Last year, Sugar City came up with an ingenious idea to pair musicians together in an attempt to form bands on the fly. Basically, the musicians would be teamed up, and then given nine to ten weeks to come up with a fifteen minute set of music. In 2014, the newly-formed bands competed against each other in a Queen City Music Lottery Showcase, to see who would come away with top prize.
During the completely random selection process, members of bands are introduced to each other after a lottery drawing. That means that bands could end up with multiple drummers, or no drummer at all. At the same time, there is no knowing how talented the “musicians” will be. A pro might be teamed up with a novice… the talent scale could swing in either direction.
The point is to meet new people, and to be open and experimental when it comes to music. Sugar City has always led the way with these types of fun-loving musical experiments.
Queen City Music Lottery #2 – Lottery Drawing is brought to you by PeterWalkee Records, Sugar City and the Sugar City Control Team.
To participate, musicians must come to the Sign Up meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015. The gathering will take place at Sugar City’s new headquarters at 1239 Niagara Street – the time is still being determined, so stay tuned to Facebook for further details.
