Mayor Brown has announced that he is offering up $5000 to the winner of a Buffalo-centric video game challenge as part of the “Mayor’s Serious Computer Game Design Competition”. Game designers interested in designing a game must be sure that the winning game adheres to the following criteria:
A winning concept will:
- Teach life skills and employable skills that lead to meaningful employment;
- Highlight the importance of diversity in society and in the workplace;
- Develop a video game that educates and is fun to play, while promoting the City of Buffalo;
- Create an electronic game that can be played on multiple formats (i.e. phone or tablet app, Computer, game console).
The “live” game designer event will take place at Buffalo Game Space from March 20 to March 22, 2015. There will be a series of competitive rounds* that will ultimately determine the winner.
*In Round One, the three finalists will receive cash prizes and advance to the next round. (1st prize $1,250; 2nd prize $750; 3rd prize $500) Round Two will take place in April and that’s when the finalists will present their games to a panel of judges. The winner will then be selected and receive a grand prize cash award in the amount of $5,000.
