Music is Art (MiA) has launched a new mentorship program that allows high school students who are in a band to team up with music professionals in order to truly understand the nature of the industry.
The Music is Art University of Rock (URock!) Mentor Program is designed to give the band members the tools that they need to succeed at an earlier age. Often times the musicians must “go it alone”, only to find that they could have avoided the pitfalls that other musicians made before them.
MiA launched the program by casting a wide net in hopes of attracting a diverse spectrum of talents. While the name of the program implies “rock music”, all genres of music are welcome. No matter the style of music, the important thing for the high school musicians to know is that there is a support group waiting for them to help navigate the business side of their passions (leadership, communications, ethics, legal, accounting, marketing, promotion, social media, merchandising, recording and releasing music).
The free program is made possible thanks to a grant from The Pick Me Up Foundation.
Students will meet once a week for five weeks and meet with industry experts on various topics. The final week will have Buffalo music legends doing a Q&A with the students. Interested students can head to the website at www.musicisart.org/youth and print a registration form. Adults interested in serving as mentors should contact director@musicisart.org or call 716-870-7089 for more information.
