For those of you who “get” good design and/or inspirational art, be sure stay in tune with Manuel Barreto Furniture (MBF – see here).
The exquisite, contemporary, original furniture and design studio/gallery is planning on hosting some heavy hitting art and design events, starting with “Design Block : 430 Session” scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 215 at 7pm. Design Block (see here) which is a sister group to Preservation-Ready Sites, “leverages social media and grassroots tactics to raise the dialogue around, and decisions affecting, new design in Buffalo.”
Upon learning about Design Block, MBF owner Pedro Manuel Freire suggested that his furniture gallery host an off-line meet-up of group members. “Instead of just being the online presence,” Pedro told me. “We decided that we wanted to meet everyone. It’s a social network meeting about design and furniture. We will be hosting the meeting, and talking about the projects that we are working on. There will be other architects, designers and people who follow design in attendance, many of which are members of Design Block.”
Heading more in the gallery direction, Manuel Barreto Art Gallery presents the works of artist Matthew John Pasquarella, with an opening reception on Thursday, January 29 from 7-10pm (through February 28).
This is the first show to be held at the gallery that features works that are not affiliated with the owners. “We invite everyone to come meet Buffalo based contemporary artist Matthew John Pasquarella,to see his selected work.” said Pedro. “Matthew paints large scale pieces that we felt would be perfect in the space. His works are very dynamic, and he has an interesting approach with colors and concepts. He paints with colorful emotions – perfect for a winter showing.”
Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
