As part of its winter programming, Canalside is soliciting a number of pop-up vendors to showcase their goods once the skating on the canals is operational. I was wondering what the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) was going to do to add interest to the site, other than promoting the newly opened Tim Hortons and 716 Food and Sport. In order to create a holiday atmosphere there needs to be broadcasted music, a holiday tree, warming huts, heating elements, etc. Basically, when visitors exit the Metro Rail there should be plenty for them to see and do.
To add interest to The Ice @ Canalside, the ECHDC is looking for local entrepreneurs to fill a number of pop-up huts that are on loan from Larkin Square. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to sell their wares to a captive audience. I’m thinking about vendors that sell hot cocoa, hot pretzels, hot peanuts, roasted chestnuts… goodies to offer visitors that will keep them toasty and happy. The more vendors that are down there, the more people will want to stick around. If you have an idea for one of the pop-up huts that you could like to try out this winter (the rinks open on December 18, 2014), please send an email to info@canalsidebuffalo.com. The booths are open to merchants, artisans, etc.
