A one-block stretch of Genesee Street will soon have four new restaurants. Marble + Rye, a new restaurant from Michael Dimmer and Christian Willmott, has leased the first floor space at 112 Genesee Street, a four-story building being renovated for commercial and residential uses. It will join recently opened or planned Dog é Style, Marco’s Italian Deli, and Natalie’s Mediterranean Eatery on the block.
Marble + Rye will be a full-service restaurant and bar with seating for approximately 70 guests. The menu will be reflective of the duo’s creative cooking ethos, focusing heavily on New American cuisine with a global influence, including a truly inspired selection of choice cuts of prime meat, specialty burgers, and innovative dishes crafted with deep attention to detail.
Dimmer and Willmott, friends and business partners armed with culinary educations from Niagara Culinary Institute, years of hard-earned experience in a variety of restaurant positions, and boundless creative enthusiasm, launched the Black Market Food truck in January 2012. The truck, with its focus on hearty staples like gourmet sandwiches that utilize fresh, unique ingredients and a rotating selection of arancini, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the nascent food truck scene in WNY.
“We have had such a great experience with the Black Market Food Truck. It’s been amazing and humbling to see people love what we do and we intend to keep BMFT rolling right along. But we’ve decided that the time is right to take the next step,” says Willmott.
Dimmer notes, “Our food philosophy has always been that everything is better when made from scratch and we intend to carry that through to Marble + Rye. We will be sourcing as much as we can locally and using the seasonality of ingredients to guide our menus.”
The restaurant will feature a thoroughly modern decor and top-of-the-line equipment like a Mexican plancha and a wood-fired oven. Work is expected to be complete on time for an early-Spring 2015 opening.
Chapin 112 Genesee LLC, a development group consisting of Paul Lamparelli, Peter Lamparelli, Steve Przbyla and Sean Insalaco, purchased the property in 2013 for$165,000. The 7,200 sq.ft. building is located across from Genesee Gateway and is along a stretch of Genesee that will be getting a streetscape overhaul.
The upper floor apartments are one-bedroom units and rents are expected to range from about $850 to $1,050/month. There are two apartments on both the second the third floors with 700 to 850 sq.ft. of living space and the largest unit with 1,000 sq.ft. occupies the fourth floor.
Apartments feature hardwood floors, granite countertops, high-end appliances, recessed lighting, exposed brick walls, in-unit laundry facilities, and high ceilings.
