In my mind, Sonny Baker is one shining stars of the Buffalo music scene. He’s a young man who is constantly pursuing musical projects of an artful and high quality. Since meeting him in 2005 at Nietzsche’s when Sonny was 16 years old, you could just see that music was constantly flowing through his veins as both a musician and as a fan. During those years, he would lead his band ‘uberfunk’ with fun songs and very advance guitar skills for being still in high school.
Fast-forwarding a few years to his enrollment at Buffalo State College, it came as no shock to see Sonny immerse himself in the local music scene, eventually joining the Lazlo Hollyfeld line-up and creating additional musical groups. One of those groups was A Hotel Nourishing.
A Hotel Nourishing, is a duo comprised of guitar player Sonny Baker and drummer Cam Rogers. They recently brought to life the “Empty Gesture” EP, the group’s first new album in seven years. Both members have been busy with other projects (Lazlo Hollyfeld, Wooden Waves, and All of Them Witches). Finally they have gotten back together to breathe new life into old works and brand new songs. The duo blends Post-Punk, Math Rock, Jazz, and Prog Rock.
The band is back rocking and hosting an album release party this Friday night at another Buffalo institution – the newly reincarnated Mohawk Place. A Hotel Nourishing will be joined by local favorites Aircraft, Mr. Boneless and Steak and Cake Record’s new project, RED HEAT. The show starts at 9:00 p.m. and admission is $5.
