It’s not often that an art exhibit brings together a teacher and a student to show their works. Aside from the student-teacher twist, it’s interesting to note the expiration of mediums that both have opted towards, presenting radical directions that both excel in. “There are two interesting stories here,” explains Casa de Arte Gallery’s Richard Williams. “The simultaneous exhibits will reunite teacher and student. The teacher, Nancy Frankel is 84 years old and studied with Hans Hofmann in NYC in the 1950s. Also, one of our two simultaneous exhibits from artist Mara Odette (the student) will be presented in partnership with the Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender, University of Buffalo.”
Professor Margarita Vargas of the University of Buffalo is the curator of Mara Odette’s upcoming “Color and Gender in the Aztec and Maya Cultures: Our Legacy”.
*The joint opening reception for Exploring Space by Frankel and Color and Gender in the Aztec and Maya Cultures: Our Legacy by Mara Odette will be on Saturday, Oct. 4th, from 6 to 10 pm. Both exhibits will run through Oct. 26th.
There will also be a reception for the exhibit Color and Gender in the Aztec and Maya Cultures: Our Legacy on Thursday 10/2, from 6 to 9 pm. This reception is the opening event for “Color and Gender”, a symposium of the Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender, University of Buffalo.
