For some reason, I have gotten repeated requests to feature the concept of PedalPub on Buffalo Rising over the last few months. Apparently there are a number of people in the community who appreciate the idea of being able to ride a bike, drink beer, and get from place to place with a traveling bar. I must admit the concept sounds intriguing, and I’m actually surprised that this mode of “transbeertation” has not made its way to Buffalo yet.
BeerFests.com has an in-depth breakdown on the PedalPub, with news on its founder, and the growth of the industry (see here).
I can see this PedalPub springing up at RiverWorks and Silo City – what a great way to get back and forth between the two destinations.
I would also think that this would be a great contraption to bridge the gap between Flying Bison Brewery and Larkinville. Or Pearl Street and Canalside.
Each PedalPub is operated by a company driver, who basically steers the brewcycle (soberly) and allows upwards of 16 passengers to take care of the rest. Cyclists are able to converse with one another, cheers to their good health, and get a workout at the same time (all the while enjoying the great outdoors).
Depending on the city, cyclists can choose to drink as they travel, or must wait until they get to appropriate destinations to throw one back. Either way, it looks like a lot of fun, and there’s already a small buzz going around town that is happily beating the drum for someone to pick up the concept and run with it.
Maybe that person is you? Or maybe you know the perfect person who is ready to take on the charge. There are so many possibilities on this front… maybe this is the perfect gimmick for Handlebar @ The Hub? There so many possibilities.
One thing is for certain, and that is, it’s only a matter of time before a PedalPub lands in Buffalo. I’m surprised that this contraption was not invented here.
