It’s incredible to think that the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts (EAFA) is celebrating its 15 year anniversary. It seems as if the festival just got off the ground yesterday. For years this festival has become an inspiration for those who rally around all forms of arts – from music to dance to the art of being community and planet earth-minded. The two-day festival might not be the largest, but it packs in an incredible amount of thoughtful enthusiasm.
One of the key elements of EAFA is the children’s component. Since day one, festival organizers have made it clear that there would be a “children’s festival” within the larger festival. That means that an entire section of the activities is devoted to children.
“Create a children’s festival that celebrates and educates through the Arts. Offering hands-on art projects, some collaborative, that bring together children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.” – EAFA
Currently, organizers of “KidsFest” are looking for volunteers to help with the kids’ activities that range from creating masks to the giant parade float that is featured at the end of the festival. There are music elements and story telling components, teaching, planning, decorating, painting, gluing, etc.
If you have some spare time to dedicate to the kids, please read the details below and consider helping out this incredibly worthy cause.
From EAFA:
We have many positions available and we are currently looking for volunteers!
Although we are an art festival we have wide variety of volunteer opportunities available. For example, we are looking for grant writers, elementary education specialists, administrative committee members, cultural and environmental organizers, face painters, festival maintenance workers, Kidsfest volunteers, planners, artists, set up and take down crew, volunteer leaders, headquarter admin assists, and financial planners (just to name a few!).
While some of the festival positions are only available during the festival hours of 10-6 and 10-5 on Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 24th, other leadership positions consist of volunteer hours during the weeks leading up to the festival.
We are a fun, dedicated group of individuals and we are always looking to add to our team. If you would like more information, please contact me, Katherine Pessecow, at (716) 812-8262 or eafvolunteering@gmail.com. Thanks for your time and interest.
