Next week, Ashker’s Juice Bar will play host to a series of Argentine Tango classes for beginners.
Travis Widrick, a local dance instructor and organizer of the annual ESO! Buffalo Tango Marathon, will be hosting a six-week series of classes starting on Tuesday, August 26. The classes will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ashker’s every Tuesday and do not require participants to have any prior tango experience. Solo dancers are welcome, as well as those who want to bring a partner.
Since spending time in Argentina studying tango and attending milongas in Buenos Aires, Widrick has become passionate about teaching this dance form and hopes to cultivate a more vibrant tango scene here in the Queen City. Widrick hosts a weekly milonga (tango dance) every Wednesday at Dry Gulch on Walden Avenue in Depew, but this new series at Ashker’s will be an opportunity to bring tango to a more central part of the city.
The cost for the full six-week session will be $90 per person or $45 for students with a valid ID. For those who would like to to test the waters first, there will be a free tango lesson and performance at Ashker’s on Friday, August 22 from 7 to 10 p.m.
