Each year the waterfront is home to a celebration that honors our troops. The event is a way for all of us to say “thank you” to the young men and women who protect our nation, putting their lives on the line, and being upstanding citizens of America. It’s also a way for us to show support for generations of Buffalo military troops who have served in ways that we could never possibly imagine.
The event is run by The Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park and the Rotary Club of Buffalo, and is considered the largest and most important fundraiser of 2014.
As is customary at the event, a military figure is chosen as “Honorary Chair” each year. This year the committee chose to honor Buffalo Bills founder and owner, as well as decorated WWII serviceman, Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Ralph’s wife, Mary Wilson, is the Honorary Chair for the event.
Other new honorees include Buffalo Bills Rookie of the Year starting guard Bob Kalsu – a soldier killed in action during the Vietnam War.
General admission begins at 6 pm, after an invitation-only ceremony that starts at 4:30 pm. Come pay tribute to America’s veterans, and help raise needed funds for Buffalo’s Naval & Military Park. Guests can look forward to:
- Live music by “The Strangers” party band
- Delicious varieties of food provided by the Liberty Hound restaurant
- Drink provided by Try-It Distributing
- Docent-led tours of the museum and ships
- Auction/raffle including autographed sports memorabilia
- Restaurant and waterfront-based gift cards
