On Tuesday of this week, Buffalo band The Albrights released “Soundwave,” the first single off their self-titled sophomore album*.
The song, written by co-lead singer Joe Donohue III, is a one perfect for the summer season. It seems at once to be a love song, and an anthem, somehow straddling the line between both with self-referential lyrics and quite a bit of attitude.
Donohue’s work as a pianist makes quite a mark on the track, bouncing and bubbling along with the vocals. Guest musician Tyler Skelton’s trumpet skills are also on display, pushing the track from pop song to pop anthem with each note.
The 13-track album will be released on Saturday, July 19 with a show the same night at Buffalo Ironworks (see Facebook). It’ll be available as a digital download, CD, or vinyl.
The Albrights will also be making an appearance at the harbor on July 10 as an opener for Fitz and the Tantrums (FB). Download “Soundwave” and pre-order the album here. In the meantime take a listen to Soundwave below.
