Since I last wrote about the Whipple Truss Bridge arriving to Canalside, another bridge has arrived and is already in place. This time it’s a Swartz Bridge that has been added to the development. You can get a better feel for the scope of the project and the connectivity of the bridges in the rendering below:
According to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC), Swartz* bridges (placed over Lloyd Street and Commercial Street) are larger than their Whipple Truss counterparts. “All three bridges will be completely installed, along with handrails, lighting, grading, etc., by the first half of September. The entire historically aligned canals project is on track for substantial completion November 2014.”
*Bridges were constructed off site at LMC Industrial Contractors, Inc. in Dansville, NY. See more here.
