echo Art Fair has announced the list of 2014 exhibitors. According to organizers, there was a spike in the number of artists applying from outside the Buffalo area. That bodes well for the fair, and will help to keep it fresh and diverse.
“The applicant pool for echo Art Fair 2014 was considerably different from the previous three years, with a greater percentage coming from outside the Buffalo area,” said fair producer E. Frits Abell. “This is a great development, and speaks to a central mission of the fair: to create a regional fine art fair that brings together artists and dealers in Buffalo and beyond.”
I asked Frits about why he felt that there was an uptick in the interest from areas outside of Buffalo and he told me that there were a number of reasons. Along with the fair’s growing reputation, these “pop-up” events tend to attract different artists from year to year due to the laborious effort that is needed to show. Some artists just can’t commit to such a huge undertaking each year, while others thrive in the transient environment. Artists from Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Hamilton, etc. will pick and choose whether they show depending on their schedule of course. echo has become a veritable fine arts “institution” in Buffalo in relatively short order, which means that word is spreading further and further each year.
