The Buffalo Architecture Foundation, in partnership with Explore Buffalo, has come up with a tour program that is designed to get young people and families in tune with Buffalo architecture. Obviously our future stewards of this city will have to do a better job at taking care of our architectural assets than we have. While we have finally begun to appreciate what we have remaining, we are still seeing incredible apathy when it comes to salvaging our built environment and thus our heritage. At the same time, our new architecture and design standards certainly don’t measure up to the quality of work that we saw at the turn of the century.
Using the Architecture + Education program as a stepping stone for further programming, the new four-tour series not only focuses on some of the outward appearance of a few of the city’s most noteworthy buildings, it also takes a closer look at different issues associated with the structures. FREE Youth + Family Tours is broken down into four respective tours that highlight Preservation, Structure, Parkitecture, and Colors + Materials.
