On Friday, August 22nd the “Blondes vs. Brunettes” women’s flag football organization is hosting a Kick-Off Party & Bachelorette Auction at the Adam’s Mark hotel in downtown Buffalo. Blondes vs. Brunettes (locally) was started in 2009 as a way to raise awareness (and funds) for the Alzheimer’s Association WNY Chapter. A side benefit is playing the game, and these ladies play it quite well as you can see by viewing the video below.
As the name of the ball club hints, the teams are divided up according to hair color. The games are as real as it gets, complete with coaches, volunteers and announcers. The objective is to win and have some fun.
While the rivalry started on the football field, the players have taken the friendly competition to an entirely different level by incorporating event programming.
“Blonde’s vs. Brunettes is a National organization in over 35 cities including New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Amarillo, Washington and Albany,” said Jenn Chodora. “All women, 21+, are eligible to play – they just have to raise a minimum of $300 to play on game day and their hair has to match their roster – Blonde or Brunette! Redheads are free agents. The rivalry is playful but the hits are hard come game day. BvB Buffalo holds a series of events to promote the big game. September 20th marks the 6th Annual Blondes vs. Brunettes Flag Football game and we’re on target to raise $94,500 towards Alzheimer’s research. Since 2009, we’ve raised over $281,000 and we’re not going to stop til we TACKLE ALZHEIMER’S!”
Fans of both teams, along with supporters of the Alzheimer’s Association, attend the club’s events that are aimed at raising additional money for the cause.
