A new theater project has launched in Buffalo, and is planning to take Silo City by storm in August. Against the Grain Theater Festival will orchestrate a fully staged reading of Henrik Ibsen’s The Master Builder at three different locations amongst the silos, using the natural attributes of the site, while creating dramatic backdrops to create a unique sense of space and place. As a twist, the audience will move along with the characters as they travel from set to set.
Artistic direction is being tackled by Neil Wechsler, who has adapted Ibsen’s original text. Director-in-residence and actor David Oliver will direct the performance. The stage sets will be designed by NYC designer Caleb Wertenbaker. The cast will include actors from Buffalo, Chicago, New York City, and Toronto.
The Master Builder productions are August 1, 2, and 3 at 7:30 p.m. Silo City is located at 100 Childs Street in Buffalo. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at themasterbuilder.brownpapertickets.com.
