Last summer a group of spirited artists, performers and grassroots activists came together to create a parade that, to this day, resounds throughout the West Side of the city. The Circus of Life parade (see here) is a celebration of the diversity of the West Side. The parade helps to bring people together from different cultures, so that they may immerse themselves into a world of creativity and togetherness. From the making of the costumes, to learning the art of stilt walking, to leaning on someone’s shoulder (literally and physically) for help, to expressing feelings and emotions freely, the Circus of Life embodies the collective journey that we are all taking, here and now.
Organizers of Circus of Life are busy preparing for this summer’s festivities. In order to pull off another captivating event, they must raise $2000 (and they are already on their way to achieving the goal). You can learn more about funding the campaign by visiting Kickstarter (click here). Your donation will provide essential resources to The WASH Project so that they may purchase the materials for the masks and the costumes. Once the funds are raised, neighborhood children will be invited to help construct the artistic costumes that will be featured in the parade. Many refugee families from countries such as Burma, Thailand, Nepal, Kenya, Chad and Tanzania participated in last year’s parade. With your help these same families will be able to experience a similar grassroots artistic occurrence in 2014.
