A piece of glass curtain wall escaped from Avant on Delaware Avenue hitting a parked car on Tuesday. Luckily no one was hurt but the damage was significant. WIVB has the scoop:
A Buffalo man contacted News 4 after a piece of glass from the Avant Building fell onto his wife’s car in Downtown. The damage left $5,200 worth of repairs, but he says he’s more concerned about safety and it happening again.
A spokesperson with the Avant Building confirms the glass fell on Tuesday, hitting the car. They said it’s the first time it’s fell onto a vehicle, but that glass has fallen previously during maintenance work. Typically they’ll section off an area they feel would be impacted by falling glass. They said they are currently looking into the incident.
Sources tell Buffalo Rising that there have been four to six external glass panels that have popped off the building indicating either a design flaw, faulty installation, or a combination of the two in the glass curtain wall system. If it is indeed a recurring problem, Uniland seems to have a serious problem on its hands.
