On June 21, 2014, Buffalo City Swim Racers (BCSR) is hosting a water safety festival that aims to teach our youth the basics of swimming and water safety. When I was young I learned how to swim by attending similar classes, which ultimately prepared me for summers spent on the shores of Lake Erie.
“44% of Americans don’t know basic water safety skills. That contributes to the average of 10 people in the US that die from drowning each day.”*
Whether your child is pool bound, or lake bound, it is of utmost importance to make sure that he or she has the necessary tools to ensure that water safety precautions are met, now and for years to come. Learning to swim is like riding a bike – you learn once and for the rest of your life you’re set. Knowing how to swim is an important tool no matter where life takes you. Eventually water comes into the equation of life – the best way to be prepared for that day is to welcome the opportunity of learning how to swim at a young age.
“At BCSR, we believe every child deserves to learn lifesaving water skills and offer free swim lessons at our Water Safety Festival,” says Michael F. Switalski, Executive Director-Buffalo City Swim Racers. “The event scheduled to begin at 10:30am will include an introduction to CPR and education about water safety. In addition, Five-time World Cup Swimming Champion, Sabir Muhammad, will be in attendance to meet attendees and discuss the importance of water safety.”
The event is free and open to the public. Learn more about the BCSR on Facebook, or on their website.
