Yes, there is a God. One of the most unfortunate storefronts on Elmwood Avenue is getting a facelift thanks to a NY Main Street grant that was secured by the Elmwood Village Association. For as long as I can remember, the facade of Great Wall has been an eyesore. Blank, nondescript, and usually riddled with tags. After the owner of the building was approached with the matching grant, it was decided that a new “face” would be added. Once the building materials were removed, the original brick was unveiled, and thankfully the decision was made to restore the facade back to its original look.
This corner has been on my Elmwood bucket list forever. I heard rumors that this project might get underway this summer, but I never actually thought that it would happen. This is a big deal for a high profile Elmwood (at Delavan) Corner. In fact, there is good news for all four corners. The optical shop on the northwest got a makeover a while back, and hopefully if all goes according to plan we will see a development at the gas station.
Things are definitely looking bright at this intersection. When the Great Wall facade project is done, I might actually go eat there! Will wonders never cease?
