If you like your happy hours to have local, live music and spacious views, The Buffalo History Museum has the perfect series for you.
On June 20, July 18, and August 15, the museum will be hosting the 9th Annual Party on the Portico series.
This is the ninth year that the history museum will be hosting this event, with the planners hoping to take advantage of the balmy Buffalo weather to throw a festive party that has been called a “friendraiser.” Cocktails, popcorn, and an overall party atmosphere, shared with friends, is just the start of the good times shared at this incredible venue – the series has become a mainstay for Buffalonians over the years.
Three different music acts are scheduled to play at this happy hour style affair, each designed to broaden the “sound appeal” for fans, as well as take advantage of an always diverse age demographic. The groups were picked for their status as “local legends” in their respective genres.
The first act, appearing on June 20th, will be Grammy Award winner George Caldwell and his group, the George Caldwell Sextet. These guys are jazz legends that have played events to great fanfare, and feature premier talents such as Bobby Militello on the saxophone and vocalist Zoe Viola Scruggs.
The next act, on July 18th, will be Nelson Starr and the Benjamins, an indie rock group whose leader, Nelson Starr, has been active in the Buffalo indie scene since the 80’s. They play original material as well as covers.
The last act, on August 15th, will be Patti Parks, a soul, R&B, and blues singer who has toured the country. Patti is a hometown favorite who is known for performing songs that are both energetic and danceable.
Be sure to save these three dates this year. By doing do you are sure to catch some of the best live music around, in an unmatched setting, while supporting the important efforts at The History Museum at the same time.
