Belly dancing is all the rage in Buffalo right now. Whether you’re hanging out at a hookah bar, attending Music is Art, sipping a drink at The Gypsy Parlor, participating in a group class, or simply taking a stroll at the waterfront, chances are that there’s a belly dancer troupe performing or practicing nearby. Belly dancing is now considered a popular form of exercise. It’s also a great way to break the ice at parties and events. The dance form is entertaining, sexy, mesmerizing, fun, seductive, empowering, colorful and more than anything else… popular!
On Saturday, May 24, 2014, Fleuron Rouge Belly Dance will be hosting an event called “Cocktail Follies” at The Gypsy Parlor – the unofficial home of the local belly dance scene. On that day, the dance troupe is creating a party the revolves around the arts and artists, such as Belly Dancers, Modern B-boy Dancers, Light Dancers, DJs, Musicians, Music, Henna Artists, Magicians, West Side Gypsies… and the many specialty cocktails that go hand-in-hand with the Gypsy Parlor’s routines. Guest to the show will also be treated to The Gypsy Parlor’s newest addition – a side patio that will be open by the event (see inset).
This event is especially unusual due to the fact that Fleuron Rouge is normally traveling to other cities on weekends, including Detroit, MI, and Pittsburgh, PA in coming weeks. That alone is pretty cool, considering that Buffalo is able to represent its eclectic cultural scene in this manner. Typically Fleuron Rouge performs on Wednesday evenings at The Gypsy Parlor – an event series that has become known as ‘Bohemian Belly Dance Night’. Upcoming Wednesday shows are May 14 & June 11.
