Days after the Goo Goo Dolls played at the North Park Theatre, Buffalo darling Ani DiFranco is slated to play at her very own church in Buffalo, known as Babeville (Asbury Hall).
Just as apropos as The Goos playing at North Park, there’s no better venue to catch Ani than the church that she saved from imploding upon itself. I caught Ani at Babeville a few years back (lead image), which was mesmerizing in that (like The Goos) there’s something about catching an artist playing to a hometown crowd… especially when the work of the artist has managed to capture the imagination of an entire city, by enhancing its creative might and preserving its fragile historic composition at the same time.
With 20 albums under her belt, Ani continues to imbue her outspoken sensibilities as a singer, songwriter, mother and activist into her songs. Here’s a little inspiration for Friday’s concert at Babeville…
