One of the nicest public assets that the Medical Campus provides is an urban streetscape that is both welcoming and thoughtful in its day to day use. From rain gardens to pocket parks, the campus is quickly becoming a place that is no longer just a destination – it’s actually becoming part of the neighborhood fabric.
When the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) set out to create a place where people would feel comfortable, one of the features that stood out was Ellicott Park, located along Ellicott Street at Virginia. The purpose of the park was to offer a place that would bring about a sense of community.
Now that the park is complete, the BNMC is looking to incorporate programming, in the form of live music. From June 2nd- August 27th, there will be a free music performances held every Tuesday from noon to 1pm. Both group and solo acts will be featured, including campus employees and local bands. The music series is called Tunes in the Tent, and is the perfect setting to sit down, eat lunch, and listen to local musicians (in a new urban park no less).
Essentially Ellicott Park is a linear park with a central hub. All total, it’s a 3,300’ park (designed by nArchitects – SCAPE Landscape, Tillett Lighting Design, and Foit Albert & Associates), that extends from Goodell to Best Street. In many cases, these types of corporate parks are afterthoughts. In this case, Ellicott Park is designed to be a community asset.
