You don’t have to work in the Medical Campus to enjoy it. Did you know that the campus offers all sorts of different activities and events that are aimed at attracting non-medical types together to enjoy the fruits of the neighborhood. The events and socials also give employees of the hospitals and research centers a chance to unwind and mingle with the community. In the end, the programming is a way to create a neighborhood where everyone feels comfortable enough to want to partake in the various activities. The following events are located in relatively close proximity, situated within walking distance of the Metro Rail:
- First, the next Beakers and Beer will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 5 to 7 PM at the spectacular Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute building at 700 Ellicott Street at Virginia Street on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. Enjoy some beers and meet people who are involved with different aspects of the campus – part social gathering and part ‘inquiring minds want to know’. It’s free. please go here to register.
- Second, the annual Open House at the Thomas R. Beecher Innovation Center will be May 1st from 4 to 7 PM at 640 Ellicott Street. This event is free as well, and last year it attracted nearly 1,000 attendees. This year we can handle more than that with the new coworking space: d!g open. An evening celebrating entrepreneurship and innovation with over 55 companies… Please register here.
- Third, there is a Rotary Club being formed on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. The club will meet Monday evenings at the Jacobs Institute. Wondering what Rotary is all about? Rotary is the world’s oldest service organization with 1.2 million members active in more than 200 countries. There will be an informational meeting on Monday (April 21st) at 5 PM at 875 Ellicott Street (a little down the street from the above). The meeting will be on the fifth floor. It will be over by six and followed by a networking event. Register here (and learn more about the club, its history and its mission).
- Lastly, Ulrich’s is set to reopen!! Located its original site and building at 674 Ellicott St., corner of Virginia St., Ulrich’s has been completely restored and the back of the house fully modernized. AND the new owners are looking for suggestions on what beers to serve from their new ten-tap system. Feel free to tweet suggestions @Ulrichs1868 and stay tuned to their website for details of the openong date in late May.
