A large-scale Spring Clean-Up will take place along Hertel Avenue, Saturday, April 26th from 8:30 AM – Noon. The volunteer effort is being spearheaded by NorthBuffalo.org, a new organization focused on preserving neighborhood assets and supporting economic and community development.
This will be NorthBuffalo.org’s first annual event. It is part of the Great American Clean-Up through Keep WNY Beautiful which is providing bags and gloves. Volunteers will be picking up litter and debris and cleaning and mulching flower beds. Organizers expect the effort to be the largest clean-up to ever take place in North Buffalo. Volunteers assigned to Hertel Avenue will work from Main Street to Elmwood Avenue. As more people register, the clean-up will branch out to cross streets such as Starin and Parkside.
The new group is collaborating with other organizations and businesses on the project. The University Heights Tool Library is providing gardening tools. Registration for the event will be held at St. Margaret’s Church, 1395 Hertel. The Delaware YMCA is sending a team of members and employees. Buffalo CarShare is providing vehicles to transport people and supplies. Additional support will be provided by Councilman Michael LoCurto.
In addition, Re-Tree, a program of the Buffalo Green Fund, is donating over 50 trees to be planted by volunteers along Hertel and on residential side streets. The event will conclude with an appreciation party at Geckos Bar & Grille sponsored by the Hertel North Buffalo Business Association.
Volunteers can register online on Facebook or NorthBuffalo.org. NorthBuffalo.org is also planning monthly clean-up events in the future. Anyone interested should sign up to receive more information.
Join NorthBuffalo.org for its next Meet and Greet – Tuesday, April 22nd, 5:00pm – 8:00pm at The Wellington Pub on Hertel Avenue.
