These days hardly a day goes by when we don’t hear from someone about their want and desire to head back to Buffalo. Some people manage to make it work, while others bide their time. I love reading about the success stories – the people who left, probably told Buffalo to kiss their ass, experimented with life in other cities, began to look over their shoulder here and there, and ultimately decided to test the waters yet again. There’s something about this city (especially these days) that’s magnetic. No matter how hard you try to forget about it… the people, the neighborhoods, the quality of life… rooting for Buffalo is like cheering for the underdog. It’s like choosing a mutt from the SPCA over the purebred. What you get in return is an understanding, a devotion, a bond that is unbreakable. Buffalo is a city that appreciates each and every person that returns… not like some cities that look at you sideways if you’re a transplant. And Buffalo loves transplants too. It embraces the new energy that a single person is able to deliver.
But don’t just take my word for it. Listen to what repat Lindsay Hyatt (writer, marketing professional, educator, musician, food lover, and traveler) has to say in her recent article about returning to her hometown. And then pass this along to expats who are still on the fence about moving home. Here’s the article from Lindsay.
