These days it’s very trendy and fashionable (not to mention health conscious) to know where the food that we eat comes from. But how often do we find an article of clothing and put it back on the rack because we’re not sure about where it was made, and who made it?
On April 24th, 2014 at Ashker’s on Elmwood, you are invited to join the Global Fashion Revolution. The activists behind the revolution have issued a ‘call to action’, by asking that people arrive at the event in style… but a different type of style.
Instead of getting ‘dressed to the nines’, supporters are asked to wear an article of clothing inside out. Then attendees of this Fashion Revolution Day are asked to spread the word through social media, by taking images of their inversed outfits. And then it’s as easy as #insideout. If you want to know the meaning behind this important day, and why this initiative is so crucial, then watch the following video…
If you don’t know “Who Made Your Clothes?”, then it’s time to find out. Fashion Revolution Day is intended to “empower consumers to be curious about the origins of their clothes while showing support for transparency across the entire fashion supply chain.”

“Fashion Revolution Day has already gathered incredible momentum on a global scale,” said Carry Somers, ethical fashion designer and UK based founder of the campaign. “We have been inundated with fashion industry leaders, consumers, celebrities and media all wanting to mark the occasion and revolutionize the industry.”
4-24-14 marks the one year anniversary of the Rana Plaza sweatshop collapse in Bangladesh where 1133 people were killed and 2500 were injured. Even if you don’t plan on attending this event, consider wearing an item of clothing inside out on the anniversary. Accepted donations at the Ashker’s event will be sent to the FRD disaster relief fund.
