If you’re a musician who has played in a band, then you are aware of how hard it is to get everyone on the same page from the get-go. It can take years to craft a sound that feels right. At the same time, the learning experience, bonding with band members and the growing process can be very rewarding. The formative years are the ones that mold the sound of the band.
With that in mind, can you imagine being a musician who gets thrown together with other random musicians to form a band? Instead of picking and choosing your bandmates, there is a lottery. Sounds bizarre, right?
On Saturday April 5, from 6pm to 11pm, @ The Foundry, you are invited to come listen to the live sounds of bands that have been thrown together in a completely random way.
It’s true. A number of musicians, of all calibers, entered their names into a random lottery, to be enlisted into this crazy experiment. The way it works is that the bands are given an allotted amount of time to learn a few songs, before playing them in front of a live audience. The random nature of the lottery means that some bands could possibly, although not likely, consist of all singers, or all guitarists… of all abilities.
A little practice, an interesting band name, and hail Mary is about all you can ask for. But don’t be surprised to see some super cool and interesting acts emerge from the process.
