Even though I’ve never heard of the pizza chain Marco’s*, one has opened up on Hertel Avenue and now share’s the family Video location. After doing a little research on their website, it turns out that there are over 400 locations in 30 states, and the business is one of the fastest growing food chains around, since opening its first location in Toledo in 1978. I also learned that the family that owns the chain, owns Family Video, which would make sense considering that the businesses go hand-in-hand.
If you’re wondering what the secret to the success is (food-wise), the owner of the company, Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco, has come up with three rules of thumb that he believes makes his franchise so successful: “dough made fresh daily in each store; a proprietary sauce recipe that blends imported spices and three types of vine-ripened tomatoes; and an exclusive blend of three fresh cheeses (never frozen, unlike many pizza chains).”
*The business is not to be confused with Marco’s Italian Deli on Hertel Avenue or Marco’s Italian Restaurant on Niagara Street, both of which are local eating institutions.

Delivery and carry out only – it would be nice to see a full wrap around patio at this location, with some plants in the summertime for those who want to order a pizza, sub, salad, etc. and eat outside. It would help to add some more atmosphere to the street.
