Throughout the country, roller derby is all the rage, and we here in Buffalo are lucky to have a supercharged women’s flat track league that is as exciting to watch as it is to skate (well, almost). Each year the Roller Girls’ travel team, the Lake Effect Furies, hosts a chili cookoff to bring all of the skaters, and their fans, together to enjoy the spicier side of a range of yummy chili dishes. This year, contestants are battling it out away from the track by hosting the chili bout at Appliance Associates of Buffalo – an incredible venue for any and all cooking related activities. The categories for the taste-off are:
Best Overall Chili – Trophy, Furies T-Shirt and 2 tickets to next Furies Home Bout
Meat Lovers – Trophy and 2 tickets to next Furies Home Bout
Veggie Delight – Trophy and 2 tickets to next Furies Home Bout
Flying Bison’s Favorite – Six Pack of Flying Bison Beer and 2 tickets to next Furies Home Bout
The Queen City Roller Girls’ league consists of four home teams and one travel team. Since its formations in 206, the skater owned and operated league has steadily grown to over 150 members. See Facebook
