Heart bombs are back again in 2014. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Buffalo’s Young Preservationists (BYP) have created some heart warming cards to send to a few of the city’s most needy buildings. The buildings are needy in the same way people are. They desperately need love, because their version of dying of a broken heart means that the wrecking ball shows up to deliver the heart breaking news.
Instead of waiting around for that fateful day, BYP members have done something remarkable (again). They have spent the time to make the inspirational cards, which now grace the buildings that they love the most, and are in the most jeopardy of coming down one way or another. By spreading the message of love, BYP hopes to attract needed attention to the plights of the structures, and also the opportunities that are ripe for the taking.
What started in Buffalo is now spreading to other cities. The idea of sending a Valentine to your favorite building in distress is the ultimate grassroots way to draw attention to a worthy cause. If you’re reading this post, and you’re digging the efforts of BYP, then the most recent effort is already paying off.
Now take it a step further and visit the BYP on Facebook… connect with the cause and rally behind the effort. After all of the strides that Buffalo has made as of late, there are bound to be more success stories down the road. And maybe, just maybe, some of the buildings that got a little love this Valentine’s Day, will live to see the day when a visionary shows up with some dollars and a dream… now that’s true love.
