The wait is over, Perk’s Café and Market has officially opened its doors on the 500 Block of Main Street – a block/district that is seeing a lot of exciting projects happen lately. Located at 523 Main Street in a three-storey building owned and renovated by Roger Trettel (see more).
This is Perk’s Café’s second downtown location, their original location being at 36 Broadway (see here). The Main Street location is smaller in scale with quick eats and catering service offered, a few tables inside, but also perfect if you’re on the go. I was in and out in only a matter of minutes after ordering a coffee and bagel.
What makes Perk’s stand out from the other coffee shops? Delicious organic coffee! I’m always on the hunt for different coffee brands and was surprised to find that this particular café features Charleston Coffee Roasters (from Charleston, SC). Perk’s serves up a number of different coffee varieties such as Sumatra, Honduras, and Colombian. And of course you have your teas, espresso, breakfast and lunch specials. It’s also the most friendly staff you will ever meet, and in my book that goes a long way.
Seeing these sorts of businesses open on Main Street is great. Other businesses tend to look at cafés as barometers for the health of a street/district. Perk’s has already done an outstanding job with its first location, which is why I’m so happy to see them rallying to another location so soon. Sometimes it can be the best business decision to get into a market as an urban pioneer instead of looking back in hindsight and wondering why you didn’t move on an opportunity when it presented itself.

Hours are being tested, but for now are Mon-Fri 7am – 6pm & Sat 8am – 1pm
