The first time that I watched the trailer for the documentary film Long Live TOY – Defending Children’s Theatre in the Nickel City, it brought tears to my eye. The second time that I watched the trailer, the same thing happened. I can’t even imagine what would happen if I watched the whole film.
In a city like Buffalo, where our cultural scene is the glue that holds much of our community together, organizations such as Theatre of Youth (TOY) are imperative to support. It’s hard to imaging this city without TOY, but there have been times when financial crises have struck and the walls almost came crumbling down. The following video is a reminder that we all need to get behind the good things in Buffalo, so that we can continue to tell the stories that matter for generations to come.
To think that this film might just be the last locally produced film to screen at the Market Arcade is as troubling as the producer’s underlying message. TOY ultimately overcame adversity, but not without a huge groundswell of support. Hopefully the same will happen for The Market Arcade. On Sunday, December 29, 2013, join Meg Quinn, Artistic Director of Theater of Youth, along with the film producers and local politicians. The audience will be able to participate in an interactive art funding/political issues poll at the time of the screening. Hopefully the powerful message of the film will help to impact public opinion and influence the politicians who indeed hold the purse strings in this city.
The Producers of the film Long Live TOY – Defending Children’s Theatre in the Nickel City – will be conducting a free screening at the Market Arcade Theatre on Sunday December 29, 2013 at 5:00 PM.
