The gift shopping season is just beginning, but there is one event that guarantees that you will get off to a good start tackling your shopping list. The 17th annual Women’s Gifts Show is coming up on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm at Bebeville inside Asbury Hall (corner of Delaware and West Tupper Avenues). Talk about a wonderful opportunity to get together with some friends and support local artists and artisans this holiday season… while paying a visit to one of the most incredible adaptive use scenarios in the country. “Each year we host over 70 women showcasing their craft,” said Bernadette Hoppe, a jeweler and one of the event’s founders. “We have many of our favorites and some new artists.”
These are the types of gift-buying opportunities that make you feel good about purchasing gifts. Honestly, not only are you picking up one of a kind items, you’re also supporting the people who live right here in your community. On-hand will be art, paintings, photos, ceramic pieces, jewelry of all kinds (silversmithing, handblown glass beads, freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, and earrings)…. and knitted monster dolls, luminaries of vintage music prints, stained glass tree ornaments, “A Year of Me” children’s books, handcrafted American Girl-sized doll clothes, glass vessels, organic body scrubs and lotions, felted flower pins and tree skirts, and embroidered wall art. “People return each year to revel in the warm, friendly and festive atmosphere,” said Hoppe. “We, as organizers, encourage people to help boost the local economy by purchasing unique holiday gifts from local artists and craftspeople and Women’s Gifts is the perfect outlet to do just that.”
Amy’s food truck will be at the scene, and so will the Buffalo Beer Goddesses (see Facebook) with craft beer samples. Pick up some sweet treats, get a chair massage, and mix and mingle with the artists and artisans. “If people want to join us and not spend a dime, that’s okay too,” Hoppe said. “We welcome everyone to come and see what we offer and to relax, listen to music, wander around and take a look at what our artists have crafted.”
