Back in May, I posted that a Buffalo Rising reader had sent along an idea that she felt would suit this city well. Not long after that, the Elmwood Village Association (Neighborhoods Committee) put out a call for anyone interested in forming a committee to see the idea come to life. With the committee in place, a date has been set for this year, to kick off the inaugural Buffalo Porchfest… a concept that marries to necessary ingredients: porches and musicians. The idea is to create micro music venues on the porches and lawns of West Side houses, while traveling audience members pay visits to see the local talent offerings.
On Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 1pm to 5pm, a number of porches on the West Side of the city will come alive with the sounds of live music. Thankfully, a host of homeowners have donated porch-time to musicians who are looking to play. As of yet, many final details have yet to be announced, but we’ll keep you posted on further developments. In the meantime, be sure to save the date for this special event. And if you’re looking to volunteer, this should be a fun grassroots initiative to help out with.
