After writing about the extraordinary house at 467 Virginia Street in Buffalo’s Allentown neighborhood a few weeks ago I quickly alerted Chuck LaChiusa to the fact that the house was on the market presenting an opportunity for obtaining contemporary interior photos of its stunning interior . Chuck is the master mind behind the amazing and increasingly comprehensive on-line catalogue of Buffalo architecture called Buffalo as an Architectural Museum. This building was not yet on his site when I wrote the story but certainly needed to be. Chuck jumped on it and snapped some great images, digging up a bit of historical imagery as well. You can see many more pictures inside and out on the site here where you will also find a short history of the house.
As you can see from the images stunning is a an appropriate word to use for the inside of the building. It may be one of the most fully intact spaces from the era with its full complement of wall murals and even the original reception desk still in the space. It is an American cultural treasure. I believe that the house is still on the market. God, I hope it gets into the right hands. I shudder to think of some idiot with a paint roller in here.
