Every year, the Olmsted Parks Conservancy throws a couple of events intended to draw supporters together for an evening of fun, while at the same time attempting to raise funds for a park system that most of us tend to take for granted. Think about it for a second. How many times have you visited an Olmsted park this year? Did you go to the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers’ Market? Did you jog around Ring Road in Delaware Park? Did you play golf, go boating, hula hoop, picnic, fly a kite, attend a wedding, walk your dog or simply sit underneath a tree? I am sure that most people are not aware that the upkeep of the Olmsted Park System relies heavily on people within the community for funding, whether it’s becoming a member of the Olmsted Parks or attending Party for The Parks, the latter commanding a lowly $25 ticket price for a Rock ‘n Roll themed event that happens to be coming up this Friday, September 6, starting at 7pm at The Marcy Casino in Delaware Park. VIP tickets are also available. By attending Party for The Parks (or becoming a member of Olmsted Parks), you are helping The Conservancy to fulfill its mission. About The Conservancy:
“The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is the first nonprofit organization in the nation to manage and operate an entire historic urban park system that consists of 1200 acres of beautifully designed parks, parkways and circles. The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is a not-for-profit, membership-based, community organization whose mission is to promote, preserve, restore, enhance, and maintain the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed parks and parkways in the Greater Buffalo area for current and future generations.”
This year’s Party for The Parks is gearing up to be one of the best in the history of the event… especially “for those about to rock!” That’s because this year, all types of rockers will come together under one roof to celebrate the world’s most familiar and celebrated music – Rock ‘n Roll. Along with the classic bands, the songs, the outfits and the hair styles, The Marcy Casino will be transformed into a rock ‘n roll party atmosphere that pays tribute to all of the great music festivals from Woodstock to Coachella. As the air fills with sounds ranging from The Beatles to Bowie, the grounds will come alive with Hula hoopers, stick jugglers, drum circles and fire dancers. From karaoke to interactive mural demonstrations, Olmsted Rocks! will be the only place in town to get down and rock out by taking a trip back in time to a place where rock stars were gods and their fans were devoted to the enduring songs that they delivered. For those about to Rock… we salute you!
Party for The Parks encourages guests to dress up in their favorite rocker attire if they so desire. Come check out the “floating” stage that is built right over the lake. Dance your booty off inside the big tent, or take a stroll through the old boathouse as you indulge in a wide array of food and drinks and browse the auction items. Seeing that the weather is cooperating nicely, this will be one of the last outdoor bashes of the year… don’t miss it.
