After having an incredibly successful summer of public art-meets-piano playing, artist and social entrepreneur Mark Weber is winding down his Pianos in Public Buffalo initiative. For those who are looking to get a few last songs in, you might want to head to Larkin Square, The Mansion on Delaware Avenue’s pocket park, Grant Street outside of Westside Stories book store, Algonquin Studios at the Brisbane Building downtown and Caramici’s Bistro on Hertel Avenue (among others) before the pianos get hauled away.
With the cooler season approaching, Mark has been faced with a quandary. What to do with the pianos over the wintertime? After doing some soul searching (searching for an organization with soul), Mark encountered the gang over at The Foundry (298 Northampton Street). By now, we have become accustomed to The Foundry’s creative bent, and its drive to become current in creative and industrious Buffalo. Therefore, Mark’s need to find a responsible sitter for the pianos has been fulfilled. Visitors to The Foundry will have a bunch of pianos to play during the cold months, while Mark regroups after the stellar effort that he managed to pull off. “The Foundry is a unique building devoted to artistic expression, creative exchange and new ideas/productive action,” wrote Mark in a recent news blast. “It serves as an incubator for small businesses, as well as a place where people learn new skills and collaborate on projects using both their minds and their hands.”
Sounds like a marriage made in heaven if you ask me.
*The pianos are scheduled to move from their outdoor locations to The Foundry sometime in September thanks to Tom Miller of Miller Piano Service.
