The next time that you take a walk around your block, commercial or residential, be sure to jot down locations that are in need of trees. If you come across any empty City tree beds, you have until August 30 to reserve a tree through The City – also sponsored by ReTree Buffalo and GOBike Buffalo (part of the Complete Streets Campaign).

It is so important that we pay our respects to our city’s history… we were once known as The City of Trees, and there are a number of individuals and organizations that are doing everything in their power to get us back to that place once again. Ever since the October Storm, there is a heightened sense of awareness as to the benefits of our tree-lined streets, and we as a community must be a watchdog when it comes to ensuring that our tree stock is solid. There are so many benefits to reforesting our city, including:
◦ Reduced and more appropriate traffic speeds;
◦ Create safer walking and bicycling environments; thus better neighborhoods (see here)
◦ Added value to adjacent homes, businesses and tax base; (see here)
◦ Reduced stormwater run-off;
◦ Protection from the elements;
◦ Improved air quality;
◦ And an overall better quality of life for all residents.
There are even benefits that you might not ever have imagined, see here.
The following site will get you on your way to either getting a tree planted this fall (numbers are limited), and or volunteering to become a tree advocate by getting involved with the tree planting mission.
