Every once in a while, we hear rumors that a strip club might be opening downtown. That rumor has been circulating again. Not to say that it’s going to happen, as time and time again nothing comes of the hearsay. But what if a strip club was to open in Downtown Buffalo?
For years, Buffalo has been on the doorstep of the “Canadian ballet” – a term that stuck many full moons ago when guys would head across the border to catch a strip act.
These days, it’s not just guys that frequent these types of clubs. Girls are having their fair share of fun too, and like guys many have made the male stripper review part of a ladies’ night out routine.
Of course the Canadian clubs were always popular for reasons ranging from drinking age to drink prices to visiting acts from Montreal to the amount of flesh that was allowed. In Buffalo, most of the strip clubs have been relegated to areas surrounding the airport, with Hertel and Route 5 being a couple of exceptions.
In recent years the burlesque scene has been making a bit of a comeback in Buffalo. From traveling shows to hometown harlots, these types of acts are becoming more commonplace at clubs and events. Are these shows a precursor to more risqué shows to come? Anyone who watches cable TV can tell you that America is pushing the envelope when it comes to nudity. With each new generation “less is more” appears to be the direction that we as a society are going.
Back in the day strip-burlesque clubs were ever-present in downtown. Now there are none. Not to say that there should, or should not be any strip clubs in the heart of the city. That dilemma is still out for debate. I’m curious as to how you would feel about having a men’s club, or a ladies’ strip club in Downtown Buffalo.
